A Student's English Experiences

Some of our students have lived abroad for two weeks, one year, or even more and improved their English skills. We have asked some of them to write about their experiences abroad and in our school system. We hope this will give the reader a better idea of English education at our school.

My name is Taiga Harada. I would like to introduce you to my school and myself. I am a Rikkyo Ikebukuro High School student and am now in the first year of senior high school. I have been in this school since I entered Rikkyo Junior High School. I belong to the school soccer club and have been playing since junior high school. When I was five years old, I went to England because of my father's work. I was in the United Kingdom for five years. Now I will tell you a little about my school.

When I first visited our school in Ikebukuro, I was just ten years old. Even then, I thought I wanted to attend this school because when I visited the campus, the senior students were so kind to me, and Rikkyo University reminded me of England. After I entered Rikkyo, every day was so much fun. The older students were so friendly that I was always eager to practice with the soccer club. It is always so refreshing to play soccer with my teammates.

The lessons at our school are also very enjoyable and instructive. The teachers are so amusing that I am always interested in the lessons. The teachers dedicate themselves to teaching and taking care of us, so I feel very comfortable when I am in their classes.

The lessons are not only fun, but also such a high level that they always improve my ability. The English classes are even more advanced. In the junior high school, the English classes are divided into two types; the regular communication classes and a much more advanced type taught only by native English speakers three times a week called S-class. The S-classes have a small number of students with advanced abilities so there is more chance to improve our English skills. The S-classes are a higher and more difficult level than the regular English classes, but the skills we gain are so important.

Finally, I am really proud to be a student at Rikkyo Ikebukuro High School. I met wonderful classmates, teachers, and above all made great friends. I will remember my time spent in this school as a great experience. Thank you for reading my comments and I hope you know a little more about my school now.
