A Student's English Experiences

Some of our students have lived abroad for two weeks, one year, or even more and improved their English skills. We have asked some of them to write about their experiences abroad and in our school system. We hope this will give the reader a better idea of English education at our school.
Yusuke Takahashi

Hello. My name is Yusuke Takahashi.
I'm going to tell you about theexperiences I have had through my life in Rikkyo Ikebukuro Junior and SeniorHigh school.

I am a first year student of Rikkyo Ikebukuro Senior High School now. Up until this March, I studied in Rikkyo Ikebukuro Junior High School for three years.

There are a lot of things I have studied in the past three years.Especially, my perspective of English has changed dynamically. In our junior high school, I belonged to the S-Class, which presents advanced English education to students whose English ability is already developed. Most of the members had been abroad when they were younger children. However, I had never been abroad until I went to the American Camp in Seattle last year that my school organized. I'm a graduate of Rikkyo Primary School, and I loved English a lot. I felt it was great to be given an opportunity to study English with fantastic friends. Actually, I had a rare and wonderful experience in the S-class at Rikkyo, and it is changed my life considerably. I'm going to tell you what I experienced.

One of the most important things is that my English skills improved overthe three years. The English education in my school is special. It values the acquisition of a second language, so it ranges from the grammatical study to authentic materials, such as movies, music, and books. We could learn English in many ways, so it became more interesting for us. This approach seems work so well that I have seen a lot of my friends who talk with native speakersfull of confidence. I really appreciate our school's environment of learning.

Another important experience is the cultural exchange. In every aspect of our school life in Rikkyo, we are encouraged to consider what other people think. In our school there are some students who came from a wide variety of countries. Through these exchanges, I could feel the existence of a universalvalue.

Finally, I am really grateful for this school's education. True Christian education is at Rikkyo. Through these approaches to English learning, we can develop an ability to communicate with others in both Japanese and English. I'll never forget my time with the teachers and friends of this school. I would be very happy if you became interested in our school after reading this.

Thank you.
